This was one of the first few restaurants that came highly recommended to us by friends who's been to Bangkok and friends who lives in Bangkok. Of course, it was also because this branch was just a mere 15 minutes walk away from where we live.
My first impression of this place before even trying it out was - overrated, commercialized and cut-throat.
It was a massive 3-story restaurant which took up a whole building on it's own. of course, it didn't help that there were always throngs of tour busses parked right outside and it was always ALWAYS packed.
Anyways, it took us more than half a year before we decided to give the place a try and see what the big deal was all about.
FORTUNATELY for us, we were in for a pleasant surprise.
(Please excuse the pictures. These were taken and uploaded from my phone).
Frog Legs Fried with Garlic
This dish was awesome.
It wasn't dry. It was fresh and crispy and the garlic was just nice without being too overpowering.
The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that they chopped the frogs into such tiny pieces, thus making me spend more time spitting out bones than actually enjoying the meat.
Stewed Pork Knuckles.
I LOVE this!
Love love love love love!
We never fail to order this each and everytime we come here.
The knuckles are glazed perfectly. The sauce is thick and sweet. And it is always stewed just right, not too hard and not too overcooked.
Stir-fried Pucuk Paku.
Vegetable dishes can never go wrong.
More so when the veggies are fresh and crunchy. But this is always a little too spicy for me even though we always tell them to make it phed nid noi (less spicy).
Crispy Shrimp Balls.
Kids's all time favorite.
They can both wipe this clean. This and white rice. They're happy and we're happy. This can also get quite addictive.
All these dishes + rice + coke + singha beer cost us a total of 1150baht (RM115).
Their chef's specialty is the glass noodles with prawns and the curry crabs.
